My Favourite Family Holiday Destinations
As someone who has spent my career in the travel industry, I’ve been fortunate enough to visit some incredible places around the world. From working on cruise ships and as a holiday representative to helping families plan their perfect getaways, travel has always been a huge part of my life.
But becoming a mum changed the way I travelled.
While I still love exploring new destinations, family holidays are no longer just about beautiful beaches or luxury hotels. They’re about making memories, spending quality time together, and finding places where everyone—from children to adults—has an amazing experience.
One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “Where’s the best place to take the family?”
The truth is, there’s no single answer because every family is different. However, there are a few destinations that I find myself recommending time and time again because they consistently deliver unforgettable experiences.
Greece – A Place That Feels Like Home
Greece will always hold a special place in my heart.
Not only is it where I married my husband, but it’s also one of my favourite countries for family holidays.
The Greek islands offer something for everyone. Beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, welcoming locals, delicious food and a relaxed pace of life make it perfect for families looking to switch off and reconnect.
Whether you’re enjoying a lazy afternoon by the sea, exploring a traditional village or sharing a meal at a family-run taverna, Greece has a way of making every moment feel special.
For families with children, many resorts offer fantastic pools, kids’ clubs and entertainment, while parents can still enjoy a little well-earned relaxation.
The Balearic Islands – Something for Everyone
Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza have become family favourites for good reason.
While many people associate Ibiza with nightlife, it’s actually home to some beautiful family-friendly resorts with stunning beaches and peaceful surroundings.
Majorca offers a fantastic mix of beaches, waterparks, charming towns and activities for all ages.
Menorca is perfect if you’re looking for a slower pace and quieter family holiday.
Each island has its own personality, which is why I always take the time to match families with the destination that suits them best.
Florida – The Ultimate Family Adventure
For many families, Florida is the holiday of a lifetime.
From world-famous theme parks to incredible shopping, beaches and wildlife, there’s something exciting around every corner.
Of course, Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are huge attractions, but Florida offers so much more than rollercoasters.
Airboat rides through the Everglades, relaxing days on the Gulf Coast and exploring vibrant cities all add to the experience.
It really is one of those destinations that creates lifelong family memories.
Cruising – One Holiday, Endless Adventures
Having worked on cruise ships, I’ll always have a soft spot for cruising.
It’s also one of my favourite ways for families to travel.
Imagine waking up in a different destination every morning without constantly packing and unpacking your suitcase.
Modern cruise ships are like floating resorts, with children’s clubs, swimming pools, theatres, live entertainment, sports activities and incredible dining options.
Parents can relax while children are entertained, making it a fantastic option for multi-generational holidays too.
Why Family Holidays Matter
Life is busy.
School, work, after-school clubs and everyday commitments can leave very little time to simply enjoy each other’s company.
Family holidays give us something incredibly valuable—time together.
Some of my favourite memories aren’t the expensive excursions or luxury hotels.
They’re the simple moments.
- Watching the sunset together.
- Laughing over dinner.
- Building sandcastles.
- Trying local food.
- Exploring somewhere completely new.
- Years later, those are the memories that stay with us.
- Choosing the Right Holiday
One thing I’ve learned after years of travel is that there’s no such thing as the perfect holiday for everyone.
The perfect holiday is the one that’s perfect for your family.
When helping clients choose a destination, I always ask questions like:
- What ages are your children?
- Do you prefer relaxing or exploring?
- Is budget your biggest priority?
- Are you looking for all-inclusive?
- Would you rather stay in one place or visit several destinations?
- Is this a special occasion?
The answers help me recommend holidays that genuinely suit each family’s needs rather than simply suggesting the most popular destination.
My Advice to Families
- If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be this:
- Don’t wait for the “perfect time.”
- Children grow up incredibly quickly.
- Those precious family holidays become treasured memories before you realise it.
Whether it’s a long weekend in Europe, a Mediterranean beach holiday, a cruise or the holiday you’ve been talking about for years, every trip creates stories you’ll remember forever.
Travel isn’t about spending the most money.
It’s about spending quality time together.
