My Love of Travel: From Cruise Ships to Creating Dream Holidays
Travel has never just been a job for me—it has always been a way of life. Long before I became an independent travel advisor, I was discovering new destinations, meeting people from around the world, and learning what makes a holiday truly unforgettable.
Looking back, I realise my passion for travel has shaped every stage of my career. From working on cruise ships and as a holiday representative to organising events and helping families, couples and solo travellers book their dream holidays, every experience has reinforced one thing: travel changes lives.
Today, I have the privilege of helping others experience that same excitement, whether they’re planning a luxury cruise, a relaxing beach holiday, an unforgettable city break or the holiday they’ve been dreaming about for years.
Where My Journey Began
Like many people in the travel industry, my love of travel started with a simple curiosity about the world.
I was fascinated by different cultures, beautiful beaches, incredible food and the excitement of arriving somewhere completely new. Every destination has its own personality, traditions and hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
That curiosity quickly became a career.
Instead of sitting behind a desk wondering what the world had to offer, I chose to experience it for myself.
Life Working on Cruise Ships
One of the most exciting chapters of my career was working on cruise ships.
Life at sea is unlike anything else. Every few days you wake up in a brand-new destination, whether it’s a Mediterranean coastal town, a Caribbean island or a bustling European city.
Working onboard taught me far more than geography. I learned how important exceptional customer service is, how to solve problems quickly, and how small details can completely transform someone’s holiday experience.
I also met people from all over the world, creating friendships and memories that I still treasure today.
Cruising remains one of my favourite ways to travel because it allows you to visit multiple destinations while only unpacking once—a perfect option for anyone wanting to explore more of the world in one trip.
Becoming a Holiday Representative
After my time at sea, I worked as a holiday representative. This role gave me an entirely different perspective on travel.
I wasn’t simply visiting destinations—I was helping holidaymakers enjoy them. Whether welcoming guests at the airport, organising excursions, recommending local restaurants or helping solve unexpected challenges, every day was different.
One thing I learned very quickly was that holidays are incredibly personal. For some families, it was the first time travelling abroad. For couples, it might have been a honeymoon or anniversary celebration. Others were ticking off lifelong bucket-list experiences.
Being part of those memories was incredibly rewarding.
A Career in Travel and Events
My career also gave me experience organising events and working closely with people to create memorable experiences.
Planning successful events requires organisation, attention to detail and excellent communication—the very same qualities that make an outstanding travel advisor.
Whether coordinating logistics or ensuring every little detail comes together perfectly, I discovered I genuinely enjoy making things happen for people.
That experience has become invaluable when helping clients organise complex itineraries, group holidays, celebrations abroad and special occasions.
Why I Love Helping People Travel
One of the biggest reasons I still love this industry is that every client is different.
No two holidays are ever the same.
Some people want complete relaxation beside a pool with a cocktail in hand.
Others want adventure, wildlife, culture or once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Some dream of cruising around the Norwegian Fjords, while others have always imagined walking through the streets of New York, relaxing in the Maldives or exploring Italy’s beautiful coastline.
My job isn’t simply booking flights and hotels.
It’s getting to know my clients.
Understanding what matters most to them.
Finding those little extras that turn a good holiday into an unforgettable one.
Why Experience Matters
Having worked across different areas of the travel industry means I understand holidays from both sides.
- I’ve worked behind the scenes.
- I’ve welcomed guests overseas.
- I’ve travelled extensively myself.
- I’ve seen first-hand what creates exceptional customer experiences
That knowledge allows me to offer honest advice, practical recommendations and personalised service.
- If I don’t think something is the right fit, I’ll say so.
- If I know a better alternative, I’ll recommend it.
- My goal is never to sell a holiday.
- My goal is to help clients book the right holiday.
- Every Holiday Starts With a Conversation
One thing I’ve learned throughout my career is that listening is the most important part of planning any trip.
Before recommending anything, I like to understand:
- Your budget
- Your travel style
- Who you’re travelling with
- What you’ve loved about previous holidays
- What you’d like to experience next
That allows me to create holidays that genuinely suit each client instead of offering a one-size-fits-all solution.
Why I Became an Independent Travel Advisor
After years of working in different parts of the travel industry, becoming an independent travel advisor felt like the natural next step.
It allows me to offer a much more personal service.
Instead of being limited to one supplier, I can search thousands of holiday options to find the best match for every client.
Whether you’re looking for a luxury escape, a family adventure, an adults-only retreat, an all-inclusive resort, a cruise or a tailor-made itinerary, I can help find something that perfectly fits your needs.
Looking Ahead
Travel continues to inspire me every single day.
There are always new destinations to discover, new experiences to enjoy and new memories waiting to be made.
Nothing makes me happier than hearing from clients after they’ve returned home, sharing photographs, stories and unforgettable moments from a holiday we’ve planned together.
Those are the reasons I do what I do.
Because travel isn’t simply about reaching a destination.
It’s about creating memories that last a lifetime.

How I Booked My Dream Wedding Abroad
There are certain moments in life that deserve to be unforgettable, and for me, my wedding was one of them. From the moment we started planning, I knew I wanted something more than a traditional venue. I wanted sunshine, beautiful scenery, quality time with the people we love and memories that would last a lifetime.
We chose to get married in Greece, and it was everything we’d dreamed of. Our wedding was held at a private venue overlooking the stunning Greek coastline, surrounded by 50 of our closest family and friends. It was intimate, relaxed and incredibly special—exactly the atmosphere we had hoped to create.
Choosing to get married abroad turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made.
Not only did we have the wedding we’d always dreamed of, but we also gave our family and friends an experience they’ll never forget. It wasn’t just a wedding day—it became a holiday, a celebration and precious time spent together in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
As someone who has worked in the travel industry for many years, I understood the planning involved. Even so, experiencing it first-hand gave me a completely new appreciation for what couples go through when organising a destination wedding.
Today, helping other couples create their own dream weddings abroad is something I genuinely love.
Why We Chose Greece
Greece had everything we were looking for—reliable sunshine, breathtaking scenery, delicious food, warm hospitality and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Having our wedding at a private venue meant we could celebrate exclusively with the people who meant the most to us. With 50 guests, it was the perfect size: large enough to celebrate with our nearest and dearest, yet intimate enough to spend quality time with everyone.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Greece gave us the perfect setting to begin our married life together, and every time we return, we’re reminded of the incredible memories we made there.
